An international project opening up sport to people who would not otherwise get the chance.

What is GLIDE?

GLIDE (Grassroots Links for Inclusion, Diversity & Engagement through Sport) is an international project funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ programme, bringing together 10 partners from 8 European countries — Germany, Ukraine, Austria, Latvia, the Netherlands, Finland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The project aims to give disadvantaged groups the chance to take part in local community life, meet new friends, stay active, live healthily and share moments of joy outdoors. The Czech Disc Golf Association believes that disc golf, thanks to how accessible it is, can deliver on those aims. We believe disc golf really is a sport anyone can play.

The project focuses on four main target groups

women and girls
people with disabilities
people from disadvantaged backgrounds
older adults aged 60+

The result will be real events — inclusive disc golf workshops designed around the needs of each particular group. This is not about performance. It is not about competition. It is about trying something new, moving your body, meeting new people and having a good time doing it.

Why disc golf?

Disc golf has several qualities that make it well suited to inclusive activities:

it is affordable
it requires no previous experience
equipment can be borrowed
it can be adapted to different abilities
it takes place mostly outdoors
it combines physical activity with social contact
everyone can progress at their own pace
it lets people of different ages and skill levels play together

And above all — disc golf is fun.

GLIDE in the Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic the project is coordinated by the Czech Disc Golf Association, which — together with disc golf clubs and social service organisations — will run a total of 10 disc golf events for disadvantaged target groups by the end of 2027.
